Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Saturday lagged behind his Congress rival Dayanand Sopte after the first round of counting in the Mandrem assembly constituency in North Goa.
After counting of over 6,000 votes, Parsekar trailed by more than 1,000 votes. After one hour of counting, the Congress led in six of the 40 constituencies and the BJP in two.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday held a review meeting with Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant regarding the feedback of BJP's "Maha Jansampark" Abhiyan and preparations for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections were also discussed.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said that this year's budget will be realistic and futuristic, which will focus on areas like education, healthcare, sanitation, tribal welfare and other areas.
